Search Associates Application Form Terminology
The Search Associates website uses mostly American English because the majority of the senior associates, who together form 'Search Associates', are based in North America. These notes are meant to help those who are not familiar with some of this terminology.

| Kindergarten / Reception | American usage of "Reception" i.e. 5 year-olds, matching Year One in the UK |

| Elementary 4-6 | American grades 4-6 / UK Years 5-7; Ages 9-11 |

| High School | American grades 9-12 / UK 10-13; Ages 14-18/19 |
(On the Search Associates Application Form, any adjacent pair, or more, of the above might be given equal priority, thus indicating your particular breadth of interest. For UK Secondary teachers you may wish to give High School & Middle School equal "First Priority")
ADMIN - indicates Senior Management / Deputy / Head / etc., targets.
INTERN - is American English for a newly qualified graduate, with or without a teaching qualification. The INTERN/Art, INTERN/Math, etc., positions are NOT for experienced teachers.
For teachers who have a British PGCE qualification: please write your PGCE qualification along with your other degrees in the "EDUCATION" section of the Application Form. And in the boxes:
'Fields of Certification' - please write the subject(s) &/or age range your PGCE prepared you to teach.
'Teaching Certification/Qualification awarded by' - please write "DES/DfE [Ministry of Education] England & Wales" or the equivalent for Scotland or N. Ireland, or elsewhere. In the USA, 'Certification' means your licence to teach as distinct from your degree in education.
