General Information About The Search Associates London-January Recruitment Fair
Introduction
Organised by Gez Hayden, the London-January Fair is almost exclusively for major IB International Schools and IB-appropriate Candidates. A select number of British Curriculum international schools, and candidates, are invited too. It also contains an integral Leadership Section, in which schools may interview experienced candidates for middle management positions: IB PYP, MYP and Diploma Coordinators; Grade Level Leaders / Section Heads; CAS and Community and Service Coordinators; Counselors; IB Workshop Leaders and trainer-trainers; Areas of Interaction Leaders; and Year Heads.
The Composition of the London-January Fair
The focus of the London-January Fair is firmly international, reflecting IB international education, and British Curriculum international education, in the ratio 4:1. We invite top schools form all over the world to this fair.
The Candidates
The fair is designed for top teachers and leadership candidates from around the world who are looking for positions in highly regarded IB international schools. The numbers accepted are limited to about 500 candidates and 100-125 specifically invited schools (many of which bring two or more recruiters).
The Schools
Search London-January is firmly international in the range of schools attending. The schools recruiting at this fair come from a wide variety of locations worldwide; schools from Europe, Middle East, South Asia, South-East Asia, East Asia, Africa and the Americas are expected. We invite a good balance of schools, as regards representation of those countries and regions which have strong international schools - without over-representation of any particular country or city. Almost all of the recruiting schools offer at least one of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma programmes. 20% of recruiting schools (and of candidates) specialise in the British Curriculum.
IB Experience
All Search Associates-registered Candidates, of all nationalities, especially those with International Baccalaureate PYP, MYP and Diploma experience - and/or a strong interest to work in an IB school - are welcome to apply to attend the London-January Fair. Other teachers with experience and expertise of likely value to invited schools, who are IB-oriented, may also be invited.
British Curriculum Experience
Registered Search Candidates with British Curriculum experience, for the whole 3-18 age range, are welcome to apply to attend the London-January Fair. These candidates may be registered with any Associate, but acceptance is by the decision of the Fair Organiser, Gez Hayden.
Interviews
Interview opportunities present themselves for all specialisms from Nursery / Primary class teacher (PYP especially) through MYP to IB SL & HL and, for British Curriculum candidates and schools, Key Stages 1, 2, 3 and IGCSE / A-Level in most subjects. In addition, Principals, Librarians, Counselors and a number of other specialists are usually in demand at this fair.
Leadership Section
An integral but distinct sign-up session for Leadership positions allows schools to interview candidates for positions as: IB PYP, MYP and Diploma Coordinators; Grade Level Leaders / Section Heads; CAS and Community and Service Coordinators; Counselors; IB Workshop Leaders and trainer-trainers; Area of Interaction Leaders; and Year Heads.
Candidates interested in being invited to this section should please contact Gez Hayden to discuss how to proceed.
When to Apply
Early application for a candidate place is important - best during October or November. Candidates who apply will only be invited to attend the London-January Fair if we consider that they match the needs of the recruiters who will be at the fair, and hence have a realistic chance of being hired.
Attendance
All candidates need to be free to attend on the Friday (for registration, researching available vacancies, and attending the early evening candidate meeting) and on both of the two very full weekend days of interview sign-up, school presentations, and interviews. As a candidate, please arrive in London in good time for the candidate registration which starts at 10.00 on Friday 28 January. Availability for interviews, if possible, on the Monday of the fair is also strongly recommended.
